Wool has a higher resistance to fire than any other insulation materials; it simply requires more oxygen than is available in the air to become flammable and this makes it a superior fiber for fire safety. It is naturally fire retardant because wool does not burn; instead, wool singes away from fire, and extinguishes itself. Also, wool will not emit toxic gases in a fire.
